Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Here at The Popcorn Lady we wish you the luckiest day, and hope you’re rocking some green! The owner Todd Webster and manager Michael Casper are sure to be rocking their green at a special event today. They are working with the wonderful Tindall Corp over in Conley, GA! Stay tuned for some pics on Instagram of the delicious pretzels, popcorn, and cotton candy we’re serving up for their awesome employees!
There are so many traditions associated with St. Patrick’s Day, and I can’t wait to tell you all about them- but first, let’s take a look at the man himself- the patron saint who was originally named Maewyn Succat!
Did you know he was not born in Ireland? He was born in Roman Britain and didn’t move to Ireland until he was 16 years old when he was sent to the country to work. St. Patrick’s Day honors him in many ways, but especially because March 17th is the day he allegedly passed. Another way the holiday honors him is through the famous shamrock, as Patrick used the three-leaf clover (yep, you read that right, he never used the four-leaf clover- myth busted!) in his religious teachings.
Some of the other traditions are intertwined, like wearing green and keeping an eye out for leprechauns. Legend has it that the lush color was worn on St. Patrick's Day to avoid being pinched by leprechauns, who (supposedly) cannot see the color green! Speaking of, did you know that ancient Irish flags were actually blue? The color was not associated with the holiday until the aforementioned shamrock grew in popularity, along with the thriving Irish landscape matching the color just as well.
St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated all over the world, and talk about dedication- every year since 1962, officials have been dyeing the Chicago River green for the holiday. The green water is now a famous tradition for the city. It takes place during the Chicago Irish parade, which has been going on since 1843!
Don’t forget- The Popcorn Lady takes pride in our ability to truly customize events for every client! We can bring holiday/theme-based decorations, ensure staff is wearing a certain dress code, or even have blue popcorn and green cotton candy- please don’t hesitate to ask!
I leave you 2 things in spirit of the holiday!
