Meet the Owner
Thought it would be good to have a meet-the-owner post for everyone, so you can get more of an idea about the man behind the [carnival] curtain ;)
Todd Webster is the owner of The Popcorn Lady and while he’s been putting on the best events around Georgia for the past 3 years, his story surprisingly doesn’t start in the food world. It begins with Todd serving as a US Marine for a decade, and then making his switch into the food industry as Culinary Arts in Miami, Florida. He got his associate’s degree in 2007 and went on to get his bachelor’s degree in 2010. Todd would go to culinary school in the morning and in the evening he would work under Michelin Star and James-Beard-Award-Winning-Chef Michael Schwartz. It wasn’t until 2015 that Todd moved to Georgia. He then worked as an Executive Chef at Elevation Chophouse, Rootstock & Vine, and Einstein's on Juniper, until COVID-19. It seemed the frozen-in-time feel of the pandemic made something shift, and Todd got his MBA in 2020, and soon realized the next step was entrepreneurship!
In 2021, Todd saw that Popcorn Lady Productions was for sale, and he couldn’t have thought of a better venture, especially since the company has been around since 2000. He liked the idea of serving up his renditions of the popular, nostalgic, and delicious dishes of carnival food. Sure, it was quite the shift from upscale environments and dishes like Duck Confit, but it was always the hospitality Todd valued working in the food industry, and he knew he could honor that with this new company. As Todd says, “The best food can never overcome bad service”!
If you hadn’t noticed, the company was originally named Popcorn Lady Productions, but after purchasing, Todd thought “productions” didn’t accurately portray what we do, so he rebranded and created the logo we have today to become The Popcorn Lady. Thanks to his background in fine dining, one of his first moves as the new owner was to scale back the menu to ensure quality execution. It was just the thing needed to guarantee happy customers and amazing events.
That desire to create the best experiences for customers has led to great improvements here at The Popcorn Lady. We’ve expanded into the distribution of cotton candy and popcorn, revamped our menu, and increased our internet presence and area of operations. We deliver our products as far out as Augusta and Rome, specifically we deliver cotton candy and popcorn to 6 states and we are in the process of adding more!
I hope you got to learn a little more about the owner, and how The Popcorn Lady came to be. Todd wishes to leave you with something to remember when considering booking us for your events: Our desire to create an experience, not just do a job, is what sets us apart!
